Before there were books,
there were storytellers
Ronda Gault is a Maryborough local with a
passion for the art of traditional oral storytelling. ‘Being told a story is
very different to listening to someone read or recite.’
It is this love of the art form that has
kept Ronda actively engaged with Storytelling
Australia Victoria for many years. ‘Most of the storytelling events happen
in the metropolitan area but I’m keen to see a circle of storytellers grow in
my region.’
To this end Ronda, together with Daylesford
based storyteller Anne E Stewart, oganised a workshop at the Art Gallery of
Ballarat with visiting Welsh storyteller, Christine Willison and an event to
mark World Storytelling Day at the Central Goldfields Art Gallery. ‘I feel that
now, the time is right, to offer a workshop here in Maryborough.’
Before there were books, there were storytellers is an introductory workshop. Participants will:
·
experience listening to a story
·
learn a story to tell without
notes
·
will be introduced to resources
so the journey can continue
‘As a beginners workshop, we will focus on
traditional tales as they are easy to learn. But down the track I would like to
explore other kinds of storytelling like ‘true story’, ‘fictitious tales’ and
‘personal stories’.
Ronda has the support of Storytelling
Australia Victoria for this workshop that will be co-facilitated by Jackie
Kerin (Melbourne) and Suzanne Sandow from Kyneton. Storytelling Vic is committed to supporting
regional groups in the their goals to set up storytelling circles.
Suzanne Sandow was captured on video as Fairy Moth at the Macedon Ranges Sustainable Living Festival earlier this year. Based in Kyneton, Suzanne will appear as herself, share a story and some of her journey as a storyteller.
