SCHOLARSHIP

Storytelling Australia Victoria
Scholarship Application

for a SAV member to attend the
Sydney International  Storytelling Conference
1 – 3 June 2018
Theme: Nourished Through Story

The committee of Storytelling Australia Victoria has decided it will fund one SAV member to attend the Sydney International Storytelling Conference, covering the cost of registration for the event and $200 cash to go towards accommodation and travel. Further information about the conference can be found here.

This document sets out the considerations SAV will take into account in choosing a recipient of this scholarship, and how to apply.

In a nutshell we are looking for someone who we believe will get the most out of the conference, and make the most out of what they get!

We know applying for things can be stressful, and we also know that being a great storyteller and able to use story in creative and world changing ways does not automatically mean you are good at applications.

So we want to make sure the application process is as accessible and stress free as possible. There is an application form below which you can use (copy and paste), or use only as a guide.  You can also write to us, record with audio/ video or any other medium you choose, to present your application.

We're not necessarily looking for the amount of experience you have, in either story or social justice. We're here to add value to your storytelling and social justice journey, so don't shy away from being honest about where you're at.
Be specific – use examples of things you've done / would like to do in your social justice work and how participating in a workshop might help.  Be focused – Don't just say you want to stop sexism (for example), tell us what you think needs to be done to make it happen.  Tell us why you care and why you do the work you do. Be clear and concise.

To be eligible, you will need to be a member or join SAV. You can see the fees here.

All the best with your application! If you have any questions about the process, please feel free to contact us by email at: storytellingvic@live.com.au

Some guiding questions:
What do you want to get out of the conference?

What do you plan to do with the new knowledge, experience and connections you will gain from the conference?

What is your connection and/or experience and/or passion for social justice. (We take a very broad view of the term social justice – essentially we mean the changes for the better you would like to bring to the world.)
Tell us what social justice causes you’re passionate about, what involvement or experiences you’ve had and what you would like to do with storytelling in this field.
Tell us a bit about yourself. Who you are and why you are drawn to storytelling for social change.

Tell us about your experience with and connection to oral storytelling. It can be as little as a lifelong desire to tell stories.
What is motivating you to embark on a journey of learning, telling and using story?
Why do you need a scholarship?

Would you attend the conference if you did not have the scholarship?

What will you do for SAV as a result of attending the conference? E.g. serve as office bearer in committee, or manage/ host some SAV events, etc.?

Applications are due by March 4. The successful applicant will be notified by March 18.

Please send your application to storytellingvic@live.com.au and write SCHOLARSHIP 2018 in the subject bar.

Warm wishes to you all,

The Storytelling Australia Victoria committee.
