Matteo and the 'Titanic Dog'.

Vic Storytellers have many strings to their bows. Skilled with language and with remarkable abilities for connecting with children, our services are are often called upon to support other non- traditional storytelling projects.

Matteo has lent his voice to this delightful animation conceived and scripted by Hazel Edwards, Titanic Dog.

2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic which went down around midnight on April 14, 1912. This is a dog’s viewpoint, as there are legends about a Newfoundland saving passengers.

The Wasp Treatment: Italo Calvino’s Marcovaldo tales at the Swiss Italian Festa

I will be performing at the Swiss Italian Festa on 4 November in Daylesford, performing three of Italo Calvino’s exquisite Marcovaldo tales. The stories take place in a very poor industrial city in northern Italy in the early 1950s, the Italy of neo-realistic movies.

I enjoyed the Calvino stories … the gusto, vitality, bravado, spirit, passion that you brought to them, and admired the way you could also offer a certain restraint that allowed the ironic humor to prevail ... each story’s ending was nicely allowed to hang in the air, and your transitional “stage business” worked well to bridge the stories. Your show was a wonderful treat, and memorable. – Daylesford Words in Winter Festival

“Calvino is surely among the handful of living writers that can be called, without hesitation, great … in the spinning of his simple, magical stories we are captured, delighted, informed, horrified, reprimanded and rewarded; we are afraid and we are given hope. Calvino’s only subject is the world and how we may live in it…” San Francisco Chronicle.

Daylesford-based storyteller and past president of the Swiss and Italian Festa (1995 – 2001), Anne E Stewart, will also wind her way through 20 years of of Swiss and Italian Festa history. Anne will tell of her involvement, including a visit by internationally renowned author / illustrator Tomie DePaola as well as recount some of Tomie’s classic folktales.
